Hakushu 12 Year Old

About this item

  • Hakushu is the second Single Malt distillery from Japan’s first and most awarded Japanese Whisky producer Suntory. Inspired by Japan’s natural forests, Suntory created 200 acres of nature sanctuary in which to produce Hakushu Single Malt. A single sip transports you to the harmonious forests of Japan.
  • Produced in the mountains northwest of Tokyo, Hakushu Single Malt is a vibrant, grassy whisky with a gentle whisper of smoky peat. All of Suntory’s whiskies are 100% Japanese authentic in their production inspired by Scottish Malts with unique Japanese perfectionism.
  • This whisky is best served neat or on the rocks as it would be enjoyed in Japan. For the innovators, try with a large sphere of crystal clear ice and experience the true Japanese way. Otherwise, mix long with ice and soda, garnished with mint in a Forest Highball.
  • The Hakushu distillery’s whiskies have won countless awards over the past decade, including World’s Best Whisky and Best World Whisky. It has notes of vibrant green apple and gentle wisps of earthy smoke.
  • This expression is packaged beautifully in a branded gift box, which alongside its stunningly delicate and complex flavour makes it the ultimate gift for whisky lovers and collectors.
  • Independent mechanical and electrical connection for enhanced safety

    • Tasting Notes by Dave Broom

      • Nose

Light and grassy and slightly stony to start. In time there’s sweet persimmon and nut.

      • Palate

Pure and very clean. Sweet lime, green fruits then a hint of smoke and a buttery meadow sweet/chamomile note. Light to the point of fragility.

      • Finish

Honey, lemon and a little ginger.

      • Comment

Delicacy to the fore. A breakfast dram if there were ever one.

    • Tasting Notes by Martine Nouet

      • Nose

Fruity and sweet. Ripe cherry plums, almond milk, acacia honey.

      • Palate

Smooth and velvety. A caressing feel, quite thick. Good balance. As fruity as on the nose. Plums with a hint of prunes.

      • Finish

Medium, with a pleasant dry spiciness. Soothes down on an almondy note.
