Yamazaki Mizunara 18 Year Old (2017 Edition)

Yamazaki Mizunara Japanese Oak Cask 18 Year

An extraordinarily exciting release from Yamazaki, which shows off the glory of mizunara wood maturation. This is an 18 year old single malt from the Japanese whisky distillery that has been fully matured in casks made from rare mizunara oak. Only found in a few parts of Japan, mizunara is a notoriously difficult type of wood to work with for coopers, though folks at Suntory have mastered techniques for identifying suitable trees and crafting the casks over the years. Created by chief blender Shinji Fukuyo, this was made to a be dramatic, unforgettable expression – we reckon he succeeded in that.
